Meet Nikolaj

Welcome!

I’m Nikolaj PapaDuke

I got my start in acting over 25 years ago while I still was studying physics at the National Research University. It started with my interest in the physical aspect of actor’s training and was devouring all kinds of physical training I could find: modern dance and ballet, mime and eurhythmy, yoga and Feldenkrais, martial arts and acrobatics. Some time later, after working for some time as dancer and clown I was longing for more systematic knowledge of acting. Due to my scientific background and years of body training I wanted some down-to-earth and reliable approach and got in Moscow State Art and Cultural University to study acting and directing.

After the first semester I got good grade in acting while half of the class got excellent ones. That really pushed my curiosity and I set off on the quest for the acting mastery. I’ve been very fortunate to work with Alekseev A.V. a great sports psychologist who helped many athletes to accomplish the dreams winning Olympic Games and such. Using his advice and techniques coming from mental training in sports I went from good to excellent grades in a few months.

Ever since then I’ve been curiously studying body, mind and emotions and finding ways to apply new knowledge to acting. It goes without saying I’ve been studying different systems and methods of acting as well, mapping how they complement and overlap each other.

When I first time heard from an elderly theatre board member that actors in a show I’ve set up were 20 times more intense and present then anything else he has seen before, I knew that we are on the right track for real. There came many more similar statements and occasions to confirm that with willingness and right approach all dreams are within a reach. I have experienced first hand that if you want to have what you’ve never had, you need to do something new and in a new way. That new approaches and new results do go hand in hand. And that “Impossible only means that you haven’t found the solution yet.”
