Acting Mastery Definition #1

Firstly, Mastery is not a place to be at, but a direction to move in.

Secondly, it’s not so much about you being a master actor as it is about delivering brilliant work. You can be able to deliver perfect results, you can not be a perfect actor.

Still when the people you respect professionally say that you are playing masterfully, most likely that the following conditions are met:

• You know what you need to do to create excellent results. That’s your overall knowledge of acting skills.
• You know why and how you need to do that. That is your in-depth knowledge and understanding of acting skills, which your experience confirms true.
• You can do it. You are able to do it, i.e. your instrument is in good shape and you have well-developed skills that you can count on. This is your level of preparedness and readiness.
• You know that you can do what’s necessary. That is your confidence.
• You are actually doing what’s needed when it’s necessary. That is your practicing of your skills, your professional integrity.
• You learn from your results and get better. That is your professional growth.
  
• You get and enjoy the wanted results. You get positive feedback from people you trust professionally. This is when you and audiences enjoy and benefit from your mastery. This is your artistic and personal self-realization.
